Cnicht - the Knight

What is it for you?

  • An achievable mountain?
  • To get away from the crowds?
  • An Adventure Day?

The Mountain
This great little mountain towers above the valley of Cwm Croesor and the little village of Croesor itself.

From the Southwest it resembles the famous profile of the Matterhorn, earning itself the the nickname of the "Matterhorn of Wales", but really the Mountain is a long ridge bordering the valley.

It is defintely worth climbing, away from the crowds of some of the mountains to the north, taking you into the heart of "Wild Wales".

Your Day
Starting out from the Carpark in Croesor Village (SH631447) you climb to the summit and then drop down to the mounatin plateau to the east. Opportunities will probably emerge to explore some the ghostly ruins at Rhosydd. Before descending back to the car at Croesor

There are extensions to the walk for the more adventurous, perhaps taking in the Peaks of Moelwyn Mawr & Moelwyn Bach

The day will probably average 5-6 hours on the mountain
