The Peak District - Britain's First National Park
The Peak District sits at the southern end of the Pennine Hill of England, those hills that form the backbone of northern England and run up to the Scottish Borders. The Peak District itself is surrounded by the cities of the industial north and has been shaped by their inhabitants. Once the preserve of the very wealthy, and the utility companies, these hills became Britain's first National Park being at the heart of the Right to Roam protests.
It still is probably the most accessible National Park in Britain in terms of people who can easily get into it, but it is a place of character, softness and wildness. There are places with crowds yet areas of lonely open vistas, away from it all
A place of real challenge
